Our 2007 Grilled Cheese King and Queen No swimsuit required! For the first time ever The Pop Shop named a Grilled Cheese King and Queen to help celebrate National Grilled Cheese month! The King and Queen were announced in a crowning ceremony on April 30, 2007 by Collingswood Mayor Jim Maley. The King and Queen each received a year's worth of grilled cheeses, your picture forever posted on our website, and bragging rights!  What makes a great king or queen? Poise, a refined palate, a great sense of humor, a good does of moxie, and — of course — a love of Pop Shop grilled cheese.  Our Winners! Our King! Our aunt is the coolest and cheesiest aunt around! Her two favorite meals are grilled cheese and macaroni and cheese!! (a toddler's dream)  She is still learning to make both at 28 years old, but our mommy says that she is really good at calling for take out and frequenting our favorite restaurants.  If it wasn't for The Pop Shop we would probably starve when our Aunt Alicia baby-sits us. The first time we took our Aunt Alicia to the Pop Shop she was overwhelmed by the choices in Grilled Cheese. She had finally found her equivalent to a five star Gourmet Restaurant. Our Aunt Alicia can smell a good Grilled Cheese from miles away. She is a grilled cheese connoisseur. She needs to be the Grilled Cheese Queen. She would receive such satisfaction from knowing that although she is challenged in the kitchen, she can pick out a great grilled cheese sandwich. Please give us the chance to let out our cheesy aunt shine above the rest!! Nominated with love and adoration by Cody and Landon Scully (4 yr.)        (2 yr.)  Our 2007 King - Tyler I would like to nominate my son, Tyler Barna, as the Grilled Cheese King. Our family loves to cook.  We make meals a family affair in the kitchen.  Tyler is no exception.  Since he was about 3 years old he has helped prepare food, including appetizers, salads, soups, entrees and desserts. He even has his own utensils, apron and chef's hat.   His favorite thing to make is grilled cheese.  He has a lot of different combinations including grilled cheese and pepperoni, grilled ham and cheese, grilled turkey and cheese, grilled cheese with jalapeno peppers, grilled cheese and tomato, grilled cheese and bacon.  His favorite is grilled cheese and pepperoni.  We watch the Food Network together and get some really good recipes from that show.  In fact, Tyler made dinner for his 28 year old brother and his fiance when his brother was caring for him last weekend while my husband and I were away.  I feel Tyler deserves to be the Grilled Cheese King because he is not only the King of Grilled Cheese, but also the King of the Kitchen.  Our nominees! Joe My husband Joe will not be able to compete as he is slated to return from overseas duty one day too late (May 1st), but I had to write you about him anyway because I have never known anyone as crazy for grilled cheese as he is.  He personal favorite sandwich is American with scrapple and bacon on sesame seed italian bread.  Now is that a South Jersey sandwich or what?  He has been based at Kuwait Navy Base since last September and the mess there actually serves grilled cheese from time to time, but he refuses to try it.  Based on what they do to other foods, he says he'll wait until he's back in the U.S.A. where they know how to make grilled cheese!  I promised him to have all the ingredients in the house for his homecoming, so his first grilled cheese will be at home, but then I'll let you do the cooking! Lexi Lexi is her name.  Grilled cheese is her fame.  I would like to nominate my daughter, Alexa for the Grilled Cheese Queen.    Today is Alexa's Birthday and she turned 14 years old.  Every year she gets to choose what she would like for her special dinner.    Well, what else would a grilled cheese fanatic choose, but Grilled Cheese.  Alexa eats grilled cheese sandwiches all the time.   In fact, the first thing Alexa learned to cook was grilled cheese.  It is her speciality and all her friends know it.   It doesn't matter whether its for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  Alexa believes that grilled cheese is the bomb and can be eaten any time of the day.  She LOVES grilled cheese sandwiches made with American, Cheddar, Monterey or any other type of cheese or bread for that matter.  Although, I must admit that her all time favorite is American cheese on sour dough bread.   If you crown Alexa the "Grilled Cheese Queen" I can promise you she will do her very best to represent you and the best food ever invented. Bea I give to you the new Grilled Cheese Queen - Queen Bea! Besides having the lovingly cute moniker of Queen Bea, there are plenty of reasons Bea deserves to be queen. I guess the main reason is that I love her but what of all the other fine people out there? Haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet? Don't know what it's like to love her? Allow me! Ever since Bea entered my life over 2 years ago (possibly around 3 if you believe her when she says we met before we really met... guess the Queen wouldn't lie, right?) I've been happier than ever. As Queen, she will come by to the Pop Shop to eat grilled cheese and make EVERYONE'S life better! She has that effect on people because she's so sweet! Did I say sweet? Why wouldn't someone as sweet as Bea be fitting as Queen in a place where you can get your sweet tooth appeased? She's oozes with sweetness, much like a grilled cheese sandwich oozes with cheese. And I love cheese, so that's saying something! Let's see someone compare the love of their life to oozing cheese at the next poetry reading in Collingswood! And I can do that here and she won't smirk because she loves me no matter how silly I get! When I get too lazy to cook, and that's often, Bea will make me something that she just whips up on the stove. She's good like that, and it keeps my belly plump and happy. As Queen, Bea would certainly do her best to fill the role bestowed upon her by the fine patrons and employees of the Pop Shop - by enjoying grilled cheese sandwiches! And infecting people with that smile of hers! So, in closing, if you want a Royal Infection of the Sweet Kind, vote in my Honey Bea as the the new Queen Bea of Grilled Cheese!
