Stink's an Invincible Star!

For those who have been asking - yes, that's The Pop Shop's own Stink Fisher in the new movie “Invincible.” Stink has a supporting lead part in the inspiring film which is based on the real life story of Vince Papale. Stink plays Denny Franks, former Eagle and Papale mentor. (Cool trivia: Vince is a Cherry Hill resident!)

The movie was shot last summer in Philadelphia as we were building The Pop Shop. “I did a lot of coordinating from my trailer,” admits Stink. "It was a blast to go from acting in a scene with Mark Walberg or Greg Kinnear to a meeting with my plumbing
contractor.”

Besides running The Pop Shop, Stink has been acting for the last 8 years. He has appeared three times on The Sopranos, in The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler and in over 20 national commercials. Stink also was a professional football player who was recruited by the Jets and played in the Arena league. He attended Cherry Hill West and graduated from Rowan University where he was an All American.

What was it like to play football again? “It was hard,” admits Fisher. “It’s not so much when the whistle blows and the cameras are up and rolling because then you’re simply focused on what you have to do.  But it’s the aftermath, when you go home and you gotta get up the next morning and start trying to walk on these feet that don’t want to be walked on yet… that’s when it starts hitting you like, ‘wow, I don’t know how Jerry Rice is still doing this.’”

Help celebrate the release of Invincible and the upcoming football seeing by enjoying a FLY EAGLES FLYsundae or a BIG STINK chocolate chip cookie at The Pop Shop!

Reviews of INVINCIBLE (that mention Stink!)

From The Washington Post!!
Still, Wahlberg is convincing, even if he's chosen a role in which, if the footage that appears during the closing credits is any indication, the real-life guy is better-looking than the actor playing him. And when Wahlberg's Papale does get a chance to interact with the other Eagles, whether Vermeil or training camp roommate Denny Franks, the scenes hum along with a wry, low-key humor. "I'm a center," says Franks, played by former NFL free agent Stink Fisher. "I hate everybody."

"In all, Invincible is an enjoyable, feel-good story (screenplay by Brad Gann) that, despite my closest scrutiny, doesn’t ping on the sappy-o-meter. It’s also a film you can recommend without any caveats. And if that’s not enough for you, there’s an actor in the film named Stink Fisher. Seriously." Read the whole review

"One of the most interesting and entertaining aspects of the film was the training camp sequence at Widener. Here is where Papale meets Denny Franks, played by Stink Fisher. The "white knuckles trick" Papale learns from Franks proves to be one of his tickets to a roster spot. Simply stated, this is a great football portion of this film."
